Regeneration Update by Paul Drinnan (Fylde Borough Council)
The refurbishment of St Andrews Road commenced in October 2017 following lengthy discussions with property owners about the scheme and obtaining their agreement. The street previously had a rather drab appearance and the overwhelming support for the scheme saw it obtain approval by the Borough Council, funded by way of financial contributions from developments in the town, to the tune of £180,000.
The scheme is almost complete and whilst it has taken longer than would have been hoped for, primarily due to weather conditions, it has transformed the look of the street. The area contains a number of specialist retailers and businesses and there is now the opportunity for this area and the adjoining Crescent to become known as a specialist niche part of town with its own character and offer. The new lighting offers the opportunity to possibly decorate the street with colourful banners and provide Christmas decorations. The individual traders may wish to work together and look at ways of marketing the area and the St Annes Enterprise Partnership will be pleased to add its support and help to the traders.
